Introduction
Chester Photographic Society is a Section of the Chester Society of Natural Science, Literature and Art, which was founded in 1871. The Photographic Society itself was founded in 1887, making it one of the oldest photographic societies in Cheshire. We are affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain through the Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union.
The Society meets on a weekly basis from September to May. We meet either in the Lecture theatre of the Grosvenor Museum, Grosvenor Street, or in the United Reformed Church, at Green Lane/Oldfield Drive, Vicars Cross, Chester, on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m.
Our meetings consist of a programme compiled to provide a varied and interesting mix of Lectures, Demonstrations. Competitions, Social Events and Outings. We have members involved in all aspects of photography from Travel, Natural History, Sport, Architecture and Landscape to Portraiture, using both tradition darkroom techniques and the very latest digital imaging technology.
Great
News for Digital Photographers - Digital imaging has been without
doubt the most significant and exciting photographic development in
recent years. The
Society has now purchased two monitor calibration devices and a top
of the range instrument for profiling Inkjet Printers.
For
a fee of £5 per year members of the Society can now periodically
borrow a monitor calibration device to ensure their monitors are set
up correctly. Our monitor calibration kit is one of the best on the
market- the Monaco Optix Pro that can not only calibrate and profile
your monitor, but also evaluate its performance so that you can track
any change in its characteristics.
For a fee of £5 per profile we can also provide you with a printer
profile that will ensure you are obtaining optimum results from your
inkjet printer. It will also provide you with an opportunity to experiment
with a wide range of printing papers and 'compatible inks' as we can
provide you with a printer profile for any combination of your choice.
Our printer calibration kit is an X-Rite Autoscan Spectrophotometer
DTP 70 with Monaco Profiler Platinum software- the most sophisticated
gear of its type available. Your colour management problems can now
be solved for a very modest fee!
The
Society has also purchased in a Delkin SensorScope cleaning system
for the benefit of our members. SensorScope enables you to check your
sensor to see if it needs cleaning. The SensorScope looks like a camera
lens; however, it allows you to look back into your camera to inspect
your sensor. Anyone can clean an image sensor in four easy steps:
Step One: Set up your camera to be cleaned (full instructions given).
Step Two: Use the SensorScope to inspect your sensor. If it isnt
dirty, dont clean it!
Step Three: Clean your sensor with SensorVac and wet/dry SensorSafe
Wands.
Step Four: Inspect your sensor with SensorScope again.
The SensorScope cleaning system can be used by members for a fee of
£5 per use.
Further information about SensorScope can be found at www.delkin.com.
This
adds considerable added value for all members of Chester Photographic
Society engaged in digital photography- join now to gain some of these
benefits!
All
Lectures are given by experienced Photographers and Trade Sponsored
Speakers. These evenings are designed to be both entertaining and
instructive, providing something for everyone from the beginner to
items on more advanced techniques that will be of interest to even
the most experienced worker.
We take part in various local and Inter-Club Competition around Lancashire, Cheshire and North Wales. Throughout the year we also run a number of Members Competitions for Prints & Slides which culminate in an Annual Competition. Each year an exhibition of members work is staged here on the website and whenever possible in or around the City.
